How Andrea Galvani produced some of these fantastic examples of contemporary surrealist photography is obvious enough (which, of course, takes nothing from their effect)…. But the black balloons photograph is bugging me. Are they tied to rocks by strings? How did he create that portal-like effect? Well, whatever way he did it, it’s brilliantly unsettling. Very real settings, very surreal scenes.
Rob Mulholland’s surrealist sculpture is simple yet effective – and really quite eerie. These uncanny perspex figures blend into their surroundings, only to seem to move and jump out at you as you do. Very sci-fi film-esque – very ghostly.
They actually also remind me of Cocoon – which apparently I need to watch again because while it really creeped me out as a kid, it’s apparently not in the least bit creepy. (It was definitely really creepy.)
