Be Positive in Colourful Life!
I adore Ming Gu‘s Body Parasite collection – using just silicone, thread and pigment, she manages to create exactly the kind of pieces I love – big, bold, colourful, fun and structural.
The inspiration for her art jewellery is drawn from tree tumours and parasites. The undulating forms, extra-terrestrial shapes, sewn holes and fluorescent colour are the primary visual characteristics of her work, and combine to communicate the inspiration marvellously.
By focusing on what she calls the ‘humorous’ forms of parasites and tumours, Ming Gu is attempting to challenge people’s perception of parasites and tumours:
“They are generally considered ugly and unsightly, but through the use of bright colours, unusual patterns and dramatic shapes, I make them look beautiful and desirable.”
